There Are Worse Things I Could Do

I actually had an acting part too, but there are no good videos of "Born to Hand Jive" on the youtube.

Lust For Life

Musicals are one thing, but the way they used music in the 94 minute long advertisement for being a Scottish f*ck up called Trainspotting was very MUSICAL. As in, the soundtrack told the story. The movie would be a very different movie without the music. It was a great soundtrack as well, i listened to it many times. The book is quite good too. The total absurdity of alot of TV is easy to dismiss as merely absurd, but occasionally, the absurdity is cloaking actual important nodes of cultural information. I'm not enough of a pencil necked geek academic to go into how it works, you know it when you see it is good enough for me. Anyhow, i figure that if i still remember & am amused by Barney Rubble dressing up as "CD RAPPER" & am almost dying while watching Shabba Doo teach Captain Lou Albano & Danny Wells how to breakdance. The insane level of sound effects added on in that last bit is the high point.

Alice Cooper & the Muppets gang on the Muppet Show (1978) The Muppet Show introduced me to Alice Cooper & insured his status as cool in my book. This is a great argument for sitting on the fence between shock & show business, Alice Cooper keeps it all just nice enough to be able to go on a show that has a 50% kids audience like the Muppet Show, but is also creepy & rock & roll enough to be cool. You couldn't say that about someone like Marilyn Manson who just goes too far, even though he's probably more commercial than Alice Cooper was (weird!).
